Join Gil Lapid Shafriri, a national chess master, to learn and play chess with your friends here at Sunrise!

This spring the kids will need to tryout for the chess club. This is to ensure that the kids have adequate enough skills to beneft from the club and be successful.

Chess Club Tryouts:

Tryouts will be held on 10/1 @4pm in Room 123. All kids are welcome. 

Children will be notified by 10/3 whether or not they are selected for the club.

Chess Club

If selected, the class will be held weekly on Tuesdays 4-5pm in Room 123 from Oct 15 2024 to 12/10/2024 (no class on Nov 19 & Nov 26).

The hour-long club will consist of a short presentation by the instructor on a specific chess concept followed by a chance for the children to ask questions and work through new concepts. The rest of the time will be spent having the kids play chess with each other and solve chess problems.

Important Details

• Your child must attend the tryouts and be selected for the club (if you are unable to attend tryouts please email sunriseelementaryenrichment@gmail.com to make other arrangements)
• The game of chess will NOT be taught at the club. This club is best suited for children who are already familiar with the game and play with friends or family. If your child is not yet familiar with chess, have them start practicing! We will re-open registration several times throughout the year.
• All children need to come to the club with a chess board. These will not be provided. If this is a burden or barrier for your family to purchase, please contact sunriseelementaryenrichment@gmail.com
• Chess club is Free for all sunrise students.
