Accepting Imperfection

2024-2025

Reflections is a National PTA arts recognition program that helps students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence, and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful not only in school, but in life.

Students create original works of art in response to a theme. Students submit their completed works of art in one, or all, of the available arts categories:

Dance Choreography

Film Production

Literature

Music Composition

Photography

Visual Arts

Accessible Arts

While the primary focus of Reflections is a celebration of creativity through positive recognition, finalists from local PTAs will move on to their council PTA (if applicable), then finalists from councils will move on to the state round. Washington State PTA finalists who receive an “Outstanding Interpretation” award will advance to the National PTA round.

Student finalists and a sampling of their work is located on the Student Showcase page.

Getting Started

1 / Select an Art Category

Pick an arts category, and be sure to review the rules of your chosen category.

2 / Create

Have your child reflect on the theme and express what this means to them in their work of art.

3 / Submit

Complete the Google entry form and submit it, along with a digital version of your child's artwork by the deadline.

Turn in your child's physical artwork to the main office in the Reflections bin.

4 / Judging

The Sunrise PTA is allowed to submit up to 20 pieces of art to the Reflections program. If more than 20 entries from Sunrise are submitted, we will conduct a "blind judging" at the school level.

Reflections Artwork Review Criteria National PTA provides the following criteria for reviewing Reflections submissions:

  • Interpretation of Theme (40 pts.) How closely the piece relates to the theme, based on the artwork itself and the artist statement.

  • Creativity (30 pts.) How creative and original the piece is in its conception of the theme and its presentation.

  • Technical Skill (30 pts.) The level of skill demonstrated in the basic principles/techniques of the arts area

5 / Celebrate!

All children's works of art will be displayed at Sunrise. You will be notified if your child is recognized at the State or National Level.
